R. A. Fish

R. A Fish started playing drums in 1961 for his Jr. High concert band. By High School he was performing on drumset for his H. S. Jazz Band as well as Drum Captain of his HS Marching Band. He has jammed with Bob Marley, Chet Baker, and Buddy Miles as well as performed with Downbeat Critc Poll Winner Jazz clarinetist Perry Robinson, the Drifters, Mary Travers of PP and M, The Puosette-Dart Band, Michael Harrison, and Sharam T. Shiva. He currently performs with his own R. A. Fish's Global Jazz Ensemble and conducts global drumming programs for K-12, special needs facilities, hospitals, colleges, and community centers through The Young Fish School of World Drumming (www.youngfishschool.com). Besides American drumset he performs on Indian Classical tabla, North African Middle Eastern dumbek, West African djembe, West African baliphone, and whistle. He is listed on the Artists' Rosters of the Rhode Island Philharmonic, The R. I. State Council on the Arts, and VSA of RI for special needs children and teenagers. He is a recipient of a *RI2000 Millennium Commission and the 2002 Fellowship in Music Composition from the R. I. State Council on the Arts. *RI2000 was a joint venture between First Night Providence, The R. I State Council on the Arts, The R. I. Committee on Humanities, and the Office of the Governor of the State of Rhode Island. He has recorded two CDs for Lyrichord Discs (www.lyrichord.com) and endorses Remo World Percussion and Carvin Sound Systems.
