Penang Island Jazz Festival: Penang, Malaysia, Dec 1-4, 2011

By Published: December 21, 2011
The continuing and growing support of the government will be essential if PIJF director Paul Agustin's desire "to take the festival to the next level" is to be realized. The best music—and there was plenty of it at PIJF 2011— is built on trust, communication, give-and-take, the spirit of adventure, and as they say in jazz parlance, big ears. Penang Island has undoubtedly benefitted from the prestige and international profile that the PIJF has brought Malaysia's second smallest state. Augustin and his outstanding team have built up what is easily one of the very best small jazz festivals in Asia. And now, in partnership, the sky is the limit.
