Yahoo! Music Adds Artist Pages

Yahoomusic Yahoo! Music has launched Artist Pages which aggregate music, services and info from across the Web for 500,000 artists. The goal is to become “the ultimate starting point for music fans" and given Yahoo's reach, some pages may soon surpass artist Wikipedia and official pages at the top of search engines.

Fans have the ability to create their own pages of content and commerce offerings selecting among modules from iTunes, Amazon, Last.fm, Rhapsody, Pandora, YouTube and Yahoo!. In the future, users will also be able to publish their own Artist Pages as Yahoo! opens the platform to fans, musicians, artists and record label.

Originally conceived as a closed service that was restricted to proprietary consumption and information offerings, the re-launched Artist Pages represents the first major effort by Yahoo! to open up to multiple outside online music products and services.

“Artist Pages leverages the scale of the Web and Yahoo!'s massive audience to create something totally new, open, social and original which we believe will attract a new generation of music fans and Web users to Yahoo! Music," said Michael Spiegelman, head of Yahoo! Music.
