Yahoo Gets More Social with Twitter, Youtube

As part of the Yahoo Open Strategy, the company today announced update connections to its Yahoo Updates feature, offering activity updates with Twitter, YouTube, and more.

While the debate over the social graph and how to monetize it continues among Facebook and Google watchers, Yahoo has made a more conscious effort at being more social. The company today announced some enhancements to its Yahoo Updates feature as part of its Yahoo Open Strategy (Y!OS).

Up until now, the updates, which resemble a Facebook mini-feed, could be populated with activities from other Yahoo properties such as Buzz, Music, and TV. Now, Yahoo members can funnel activities from over 20 third-party Web services to their Yahoo Updates. These new update possibilities include Twitter messages, Yelp reviews, and photos uploaded to SmugMug.

Users can go to their Yahoo Profile page, click on “Updates," and then on “Share More." From there you can choose to add activity updates from among some very popular Web sites, including Picasa Web Albums for pictures, Last.fm and Pandora for music, and YouTube and Vimeo for video; StumbleUpon, Furl, and several of the major blog hosts are represented as well.
