Trombonist Wycliffe Gordon will be featured in an evening jazz and poetry meditation on Sunday, February 12 at 6:00 PM. No admission charge.

Wycliffe Gordon has an extraordinarily diverse career as performer, conductor, composer, arranger, and educator, receiving high praise from audiences and critics alike. Gordon tours the world performing hard-swinging, straight-ahead jazz for audiences ranging from heads of state to elementary school students. His trombone playing has been universally hailed by jazz critics: he has received the Jazz Journalists' Association Award for Trombonist of the Year, the Jazz Journalists Association Critics' Choice Award for Best Trombone, among others. Gordon leads his own quartet in performances around the country and throughout the world. A frequent performer with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Gordon will lead “Crescent City Gospel," a series of concerts in May 2006 at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Performing with Wycliffe Gordon are Kurt Bacher, tenor saxophone; Aaron Goldberg, piano; and Nicki Parrott, bass.

“Some of the best musicians make instruments seem small in their hands. The trombonist Wycliffe Gordon is one of those. With such extraordinary deftness, he wins over the audience completely. Gordon's manipulations of sound in his careful improvisations are as exciting as it gets." -- The New York Times

“Gordon leads his ensemble through soulful, rip-roaring passages that are guaranteed to produce goosebumps." -- L.A. Jazz

No admission charge. For more information, call Julie Brannan at 212-535-5530.
