The Moscow Sax Quintet is considered one of the finest Jazz groups in the world. They launched their Western career with a series of concerts in the U.S., appropriately named the The Jazznost Tour." They not only received great critical acclaim from both the media and the public, but proved that music is the universal language by showcasing the groundbreaking group's mastery of the American art form.
Founded in 1987 by Vladimir Zaremba, a professor at the Moscow Philharmonic Society, the group consists of five saxophonists along with a rhythm section. This special DVD features the distinctive group on the last stop of their premiere international tour.
The Moscow Sax Quintet perfectly captures the Jazz feeling with their magical sound, particularly of Zaremba's arrangements of classics by Fat Waller and The Beatles. When they interpret Charlie Parker's improvised solos, playing them in 5-part harmony at a breakneck speed (as if they were one instrument), you can hear the mastery of their skill in the music. Featuring such classics as Charlie Parker's Yardbird Suite & Donna Lee to jazz standards like I Got Rhythm and Four Brothers there is something for everyone. Also available, as a separate audio product, is the Moscow Sax Quintet: The Jazznost Tour CD (Arkadia Jazz #71161 - $9.98), which vaulted to the Top 30 of the Jazz radio charts. The Moscow Sax Qunitet: The Jazznost Tour DVD (V.I..E.W. Video #2318) retails for $19.98.
