Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and Special Guest Marcus Roberts

WHO/WHAT:
The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis opens Jazz at Lincoln Centers Hall of Fame series of the 2008-09 season in a concert titled, The Music of Thelonious Monk. Traditionally performed by small groups, this concert presents big band arrangements of Thelonious Monks idiosyncratic compositions with one of the premiere interpreters of Monks music, pianist Marcus Roberts. The concert will be hosted by Soledad O'Brien for the Thursday performance and by Courtney Vance on Friday and Saturday. This concert takes place in Rose Theater on November 20-22, 2008 at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $30, $50, $75, $95 or $120 and can be purchased through website or CenterCharge at 212-721-6500, open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office, located on Broadway at 60th Street, ground floor. Box office hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. 6 p.m.

Danilo Prez Trio

WHO/WHAT:
Panamanian pianist and composer Danilo Prez revisits his critically acclaimed release Panamonk and more in The Allen Room, blending Afro-Cuban rhythms and folkloric sounds with the intricate rhythms and originality of Monks music. Rounding out Prezs trio is Ben Street (bass) and Adam Cruz (drums). This series is part of Jazz at Lincoln Centers Smokin Jazz Sessions. This concert takes place in The Allen Room on November 21-22, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. & 9:30 p.m. Tickets at $60 can be purchased through website or CenterCharge at 212-721-6500, open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office, located on Broadway at 60th Street, ground floor. Mostly Monk: One For All features Eric Alexander (tenor saxophone), Steve Davis (trombone), Jim Rotondi (trumpet), Dave Hazeltine (piano), John Webber (bass), Joe Farnsworth (drums). This all-star lineup will feature the music of Monk and more in Dizzys Club Coca-Cola on November 21-23, 2008 at 7:30 p.m., 9:30 p.m. & 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Reservations are $30 Sunday; $35 Friday and Saturday; Student Rates: $15. The food and beverage minimum is in effect for all sets: $10 at the tables, $5 at the bar. Dont miss our first family concert of the year, Jazz For Young People: Who is Thelonious Monk? on Saturday, November 15, in Rose Theater at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Hosted by Wynton Marsalis and friends, tickets are $12, $20 and $28.

Jazz Talk
Historian Sam Stephenson will present a multimedia program on the music of Thelonious Monk. Mr. Stephenson is Jazz Loft Project Director at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. Pre-Concert Lecture is FREE to ticketholders in the Irene Diamond Education Center at 7 p.m.
