WHO/WHAT:
The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis opens Jazz at Lincoln Centers Hall of Fame series of the 2008-09 season in a concert titled, The Music of Thelonious Monk. Traditionally performed by small groups, this concert presents big band arrangements of Thelonious Monks idiosyncratic compositions with one of the premiere interpreters of Monks music, pianist Marcus Roberts. The concert will be hosted by Soledad O'Brien for the Thursday performance and by Courtney Vance on Friday and Saturday. This concert takes place in Rose Theater on November 20-22, 2008 at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $30, $50, $75, $95 or $120 and can be purchased through website or CenterCharge at 212-721-6500, open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office, located on Broadway at 60th Street, ground floor. Box office hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. 6 p.m.

Panamanian pianist and composer Danilo Prez revisits his critically acclaimed release Panamonk and more in The Allen Room, blending Afro-Cuban rhythms and folkloric sounds with the intricate rhythms and originality of Monks music. Rounding out Prezs trio is Ben Street (bass) and Adam Cruz (drums). This series is part of Jazz at Lincoln Centers Smokin Jazz Sessions.
