Ottawa - From its roots as a weekend-long Dixieland bash to its current status as one of the National Capital Region's largest annual events, the Festival has been thrilling music fans for 30 summers.

To celebrate, this year's edition is stretching out to encompass 11 days--June 24 to July 4--and introducing three new musical series.

“This is a year for us to both reflect on our past and look to the future," says Executive Director Catherine O'Grady. “We'll be featuring some of the best-loved artists from previous festivals, including Dave Brubeck and Herbie Hancock, as well as some musicians who represent the future of the art form, like Matt Wilson and Robert Glasper."

New this year is the FRIENDS series, which features guitarist Bill Frisell, drummer Matt Wilson, pianist Lorraine Desmarais and pianist Robert Glasper in combination with artists of their choice. A second new series--the ANNIVERSARY SERIES--highlights Dick Hyman, Fred Hersch and Tom Harrell in concert at the National Library & Archives. A third inaugural series introduces late-night concerts to Confederation Park, bringing artists like Mostly Other People Do The Killing, Manu Katche and Joyce to the OLG Stage at 10:30 p.m.

The heart of the Festival remains the Main Stage in Confederation Park and the core series concerts in UNDER THE STARS and GREAT CANADIAN JAZZ. This year, along with Brubeck--who will appear with the National Arts Centre Orchestra--and Hancock, the Main Stage features artists the calibre of Joe Lovano, Smokey Robinson, George Benson, Josh Redman and Richard Underhill.

Also returning is IMPROV INVITATIONAL in the National Arts Centre's Fourth Stage--featuring the renowned Globe Unity Project, Christy Doran's tribute to Jimi Hendrix, Syrian bandleader Omar Souleyman and Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko.

Throughout the downtown core, free concerts will bring the joy of jazz to thousands of listeners. Special Canada Day programming will once again add to the nation's birthday celebrations.

Wherever listeners turn for great music, the TD OTTAWA INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL will be there... just as it has been for three decades.
