Steve Davis is widely regarded as one of today's leading improvisers on the slide trombone. Raised in Binghamton, NY and a 1989 graduate of The Hartt School's Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz (University of Hartford), Davis first gained broad recognition in the 1990's playing with jazz legends Art Blakey, Jackie McLean and Chick Corea's Origin. Since 1996, Steve has performed regularly with the acclaimed, cooperatively-led sextet One For All. The band, also featuring Eric Alexander, Jim Rotondi, David Hazeltine, Peter Washington and Joe Farnsworth has released nine CD's, including their latest,"Blueslike" (Criss Cross).

In recent years, Davis has worked with jazz icons Horace Silver, Cecil Payne, Freddie Hubbard (New Jazz Composers Octet), Slide Hampton's World of Trombones, The Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Star Big Band (feat. Jon Faddis, James Moody & Jimmy Heath), Larry Willis, Harold Mabern, Phil Woods and Steve Turre's One 4-J.

In addition, Steve has collaborated with fellow rising stars in a variety of contexts, including small bands led by Claudia Acuna, Abraham Burton, Avishai Cohen, Mike DiRubbo & Jimmy Greene, and large ensembles led by Roy Hargrove, Nicholas Payton & Stefon Harris.

Davis, winner of Downbeat's 2001 TDWR Critic's Poll (Trombone), has released eight CD's as a leader since the mid-90's and has appeared on over sixty recordings as a sideman. He continues on faculty at The Hartt School's Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz and as a visiting lecturer at The North Netherlands Conservatory in Groningen, Netherlands.
