The Yalumba Jazz Festival is a 3-day celebration of jazz music, great food and wine set in picturesque Thredbo in the heart of the spectacular Snowy Mountains, Mt Kosciusko, Australia.
Accordions seem to be making a return to jazz in NSW. Accordionist Marie Rappolt with Viva the band has appeared at jazz festivals at Newcastle, Gold Coast, Thredbo, Morpeth, Illawarra, Kiama, Manly, Darling Harbour and Jazz at the QVB.
Since then, other players have appeared with the accordion--for instance, Kim Till appeared at Thredbo last year and Stephan Sernik and his group Psycho Zydeco will be appearing at Thredbo in 2006.
Thredbo offers a truly unique environment to enjoy some of Australia's finest jazz musicians, including special overseas guests, while experiencing the breathtaking mountain scenery.
The festival program features over 120 performers seen in 15 separate venues including bars, cozy restaurants, a nightclub, community centre, at the top of the Kosciusko Express Chairlift and the Thredbo Village Square, taking the music or jazz lover on a musical journey around Thredbo.
The Thredbo Jazz Festival is renowned as a boutique festival and the intimate performances in the restaurants over dinner are a favourite. Viva the band was a hit last year at the Credo, The Terrace and Eagles Nest restaurants.
Once the word gets around there will be a race for bookings so it is strongly recommended you book early at the Viva venues.
