Announcements from JAZZLINE and LIPSTICK Records

Most albums from the jazz labels LIPSTICK and JAZZLINE are now available (or will become available soon) through i-tunes and other online music-retailers.

NEW ALBUM: “Music by the Lost Souls" immediately available online (through i-tunes) worldwide and on CD in Germany and Switzerland

Modern acoustic jazz that is based on hardbop and new jazz traditions but has its own original style centered on moody modern compositions by the leader - bassist Tobias von Glenck from Switzerland. The band is successful in parts of Europe already and the leader has won several awards for his writing (including an award by the European Union in 2004) as well as being a sought-after sideman in jazz as well as in pop and classical music. Saxophonist Rafael Schilt has toured with Kurt Rosenwinkel and Nils Wogram a.o.

Their website is: www.lostsouls.ch

The tracks are available through i-tunes (as well as several other music download stores) - and can also be received for radio stations and reviewers in CD-hardcopy form on request.

LIPSTICK and JAZZLINE

While these two labels led by German guitarist/composer Alex Merck and founded in 1992 were among the first jazz labels to use online-services like Compuserve and AOL in the early 90s for promotion as well as selling music online in 1998 in Germany and France, they are rather late to join modern digital distribution. Founder Merck had set-backs through debates with german tax authorities in the years 2000 to 2002, which were finally resolved.

With the current private piracy situation and the catastrophic situation in CD retail stores though, the sale of CDs does not make any commercial sense except after live concerts so CD retail has ceased in most countries.

Many albums by artists like saxmen Tony Lakatos, Bill Evans, Charlie Mariano a.o. as well as soul-jazz greats like Ray Gaskins and jazz-rock group like Matalex, Kazda, Witzels Venue (featuring David Sanborn) are now not available on CDs anymore and can finally be bought again online through several music download stores worldwide through a cooperation with Warner Music's “Zebralution" digital distributor. Other successful jazz artists on the labels include guitarist Jane Getter from New York and keyboarder Adam Holzman (known for his work for Miles Davis, Michel Petrucciani and Wayne Shorter as well as for his own albums, which have influenced a lot of the current electronic jazz and remix artists.
