2009 is set to start with a bang as Linn Records announces the signing of two world class jazz artists, Gareth Williams Power Trio and Gill Manly.
Gareth Williams Power Trio will release their debut album “Shock!" on Linn Records in February 2009. It showcases Williams' skills as an outstanding composer, pianist and improviser. The trio itself features Laurence Cottle (electric bass) and Ian Thomas (drums). From melancholy ballads to biting funk, the band never loses its ethos: never compromising on intensity or integrity when veering from the hard-hitting to the meltingly beautiful and bringing a powerful focus and lyrical power to all that they play.
One of the most intensely creative, dynamic and exciting performers on the UK scene, pianist Gareth Williams has been receiving increasing critical and public acclaim since becoming a professional musician in the early 90s.
Meanwhile, Gill Manly is a superb London-based singer who enjoys great respect among such figures as Mark Murphy and Claire Martin. Indeed she collaborates on stage regularly with Linn Records label-mates Barb Jungr and Ian Shaw at the main jazz venues in the city as well as occasional performances in New York.
“With A Song In My Heart" is a beautiful album of jazz standards and was conceived as a personal reflection on the work of Ella Fitzgerald. It features the extraordinary gift of Guy Barker on trumpet and a duet with Mark Murphy.
