A number of years ago, jazz lover and 'audio-speaker mogul' Gene Czerwinski asked himself a few simple questions: What would happen if a jazz record company didn't have to compete commercially? What if instead it could concentrate its efforts and creativity on the music alone? And what if the artists were given the freedom to play their music the way it was meant to be played? The result was the MAMA Foundation, and subsequently, MAMA Records.

The MAMA Foundation, a nonprofit organization has been devoted to preserving the music of culturally significant artists. The Foundation has been funded by private contributions and its officers served voluntarily. Its goal was the production of state-of-the-art digital recordings of the finest jazz musicians. After 29 releases, the release schedule fell off in the late '90sno longer able to maintain their wonderful catalogue of jazz recordings, MAMA presented the opportunity to make Summit Records, Inc. its new home! Summit is both pleased and proud to bring you (back) - MAMA Records.
