Over the years the festival has presented legends like Dave Brubeck, Tito Puente, Ray Charles and Sonny Rollins as well as introduced new talent and fostered the careers of Diana Krall, Brad Mehldau, Jane Monheit, Nicholas Payton and many others
This year the Litchfield Jazz Festival has moved to a new home, the Kent School in Kent, Conn. With the festival's popular educational arm, Litchfield Jazz Camp already moving to Kent School this summer, an invitation and warm welcome from the Kent Community quickly followed. Kent's gorgeous campus on the banks of the Housatonic River provide the perfect backdrop for the festival. The quaint town of Kent (population less than 3,000), known as the cultural heart of the Litchfield Hills, boasts an array of art galleries, restaurants, shops and inns--all within walking distance! And all of this just two hours from New York City!
The 2009 Litchfield Jazz Festival will take place July 31-August 2.
Some of the artists scheduled to appear include Jane Monheit, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Poncho Sanchez, Benny Green, Bucky Pizzarelli, Lewish Nash, Houston Person, Wycliffe Gordon, Jay Leonhart and many more.
The Litchfield Jazz Festival is sponsored in part by the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism, DownBeat, Steinway & Sons, The Republican-American, Kent Chamber of Commerce, Northeast Beverage Corporation of Connecticut, The Morrison Gallery, Magic Hat, Crystal Rock, Jazz Corner, Litchfield Magazine, LPA Members and others.
