Intended to promote Norwegian music and, with a series of boat trips, the country's unparalleled natural beauty, the 2008 edition began in Bergen and slowly made its way to Stavanger, where the Mai Jazz festival was in full swing. At Mai Jazz, JazzNorway in a Nutshell attendees were exposed to the rich diversity of the country's music, from up-and-coming artists like trumpeter Mathias Eick, vibraphonist Ivar Kolve and In the Country, to iconic Norwegian artists including bassist Arild Andersen, keyboardist Jon Balke and saxophonist Jan Garbarek.
AAJ Senior Editor John Kelman was fortunate to be one of this year's forty invitees, and his extensive coverage of not just the music, but the entire stunning trip, is now available at AAJ.
