Festival to Feature National and Local Talent Including Mulgrew Miller, Bobby Watson, Terell Stafford, Lewis Nash & Many More At Affordable Daily Rates

Jazz lovers will have reason to celebrate this February when the DC metro area's premier winter jazz event returns!

The Jazz Academy of Music announces the launch of The Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival (MAJF), to be held February 19-21, 2010, at the Hilton Rockville in Rockville, Maryland. The Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival will reignite what was formerly known as The East Coast Jazz Festival, founded and produced for fifteen years by revered vocalist and educator Ronnie Wells, until her untimely death in 2007.

The Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival will present a three-day jazz experience featuring nationally and regionally renowned jazz masters as well as some of the hottest new young artists on the jazz scene. “Engaging young musicians through professional performance opportunities alongside their more seasoned counterparts is most important for the future of jazz," said Executive Director/Producer Paul Carr. Performances by local high school jazz bands and student ensembles, along with master classes, clinics, workshops and jazz films will exemplify the MAJF's strong commitment to jazz education.

Once again, this mid-winter festival's vast offerings will attract attendees from the Eastern Seaboard, including the more than 4,000 jazz lovers from New York, Philadelphia, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC who made the ECJF their winter destination. “MAJF provides an affordable weekend getaway that will delight audiences of all ages and is guaranteed to chase away the winter blues." said Artistic Director Willard Jenkins.

The 2010 festival's stellar lineup will include performances by world-renown artists such as pianists Mulgrew Miller and Marc Cary (a Washington, DC native), saxophonist Bobby Watson, trumpeter Terrell Stafford, vocalist Janine Gilbert-Carter, drummer Lewis Nash and many more.

About The Jazz Academy of Music

The Jazz Academy of Music, Inc., a non-profit 501c3 organization, established in 2002, is a manifestation of a longtime dream of Paul Carr, its Executive Director, to extend the music education opportunities afforded him, as an inner city youth, to others. The Jazz Academy programs draw from and build upon the disciplines of music education Paul experienced in his youth. The mission of the Academy is to advance and preserve Jazz music through education. The Jazz Academy makes available instructional opportunities to children and adults who have an interest in developing their, talent and knowledge about music. While the emphasis is on the Jazz genre, the Academy offers instruction for beginners who are just being introduced to the art form.
