IPO RECORDINGS Announces Distribution Deal With THE ALLEGRO GROUP

IPO RECORDINGS is pleased to announce that it has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with The Allegro Group for the distribution of IPO's jazz and classical catalogs in the USA and Canada.

New York based IPO Recordings was started in 2003 and has received wide critical acclaim for its releases. These include a series of new jazz recordings by some of the legendary figures of modern jazz, including Hank Jones, James Moody, Benny Golson, Bob Brookmeyer, Roland Hanna, Roger Kellaway, Frank Wess, Richard Davis and Jimmy Owens. The first IPO Jazz release to be distributed by Allegro is Mean What You Say, a quartet date led by Grammy Award winner Eddie Daniels. Due in the stores May 9, 2006, this will be the first straight-ahead jazz recording by the great clarinetist in a decade, and features his return to the tenor saxophone as well as the clarinet. The quartet includes a solid-gold rhythm section featuring Hank Jones and Richard Davis, who along with Daniels were charter members of the great Thad Jones - Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra, and the renowned drummer Kenny Washington. Forthcoming IPO Jazz releases include a new recording of Thad Jones compositions, a sequel to IPO's highly praised 2005 release “One More, Music of Thad Jones", featuring many of Thad's friends and colleagues including Hank Jones, James Moody, Benny Golson and Frank Wess, and a recording by the newly-formed trio of the brilliant pianist and musician, Roger Kellaway.

IPO's classical releases for 2006 will include, most notably, an extensive series of recordings by Joyce Hatto, recently described by The Boston Globe as “the greatest living pianist that almost no one has ever heard of." This extraordinary, previously undiscovered pianist is featured in the current issues of Gramophone and International Pianist, where noted piano critic Jeremy Nicholas states that she is unequivocally “one of the greatest pianists I have ever heard," each of whose recorded performances “compares with or surpasses the benchmark recordings of world famous names." The IPO “Joyce Hatto Collection", currently in preparation, is planned to eventually cover most of the mainstream and much modern classical piano repertoire, and will be released starting in the summer of 2006.

IPO's founder, Bill Sorin, stated that “We are extremely pleased to be part of Allegro's group of distributed labels. Allegro has a well-earned reputation as the premier distributor of independent labels in both the jazz and classical worlds. At IPO, we've put a great deal of effort into building a library of great recordings by some of the best musicians in the world, some of whom are already legendary artists and others who are now attaining recognition as major musicians. We are confident that Allegro is the best distribution partner for our label and that we will have a great relationship with them."

“The Allegro Group was founded over 25 years ago and we are well established as one of North America's leading independent CD & DVD distributors. We are always open to new partnerships with quality labels, The Allegro Group is very pleased to welcome IPO Recordings to our family of distributed labels. IPO has established a great reputation for quality recordings, superior packaging and an extraordinary line up of recording artists. We look forward to a long relationship with IPO and their founder William Sorin. This partnership is a great fit for Allegro!" --Forrest Faubion, Allegro Product Manager
