Happy Birthday Bob Dylan!

CELEBRANTS SALUTE HIM FROM WATCHTOWER





Born May 24, 1941, in Duluth, Minnesota, Bob Dylan continues to age like great whiskey, gaining flavor and smoothness with every passing year. The great man (why stop at musician or songwriter with this guy?) is living proof that the phrase “golden years" can mean something entirely different if one remains active and engaged with the world.



For those wanting to wallow in a Dylan-y pile today we point you at the following options:



-Legacy Recordings' wonderful Bob Dylan podcasts hosted by Patti Smith, where the work of the master is lovingly pondered by various luminaries, collaborators and scholars. Here's the first episode and pop over here to check out the other 18 installments!




-For some swell covers of Dylan's songs, bend an ear to Mike Elam's guest appearance on Barry Sultanoff's weekly Manao Radio show, where they play choice versions of Bob's tunes and discuss what goes into a good Dylan cover.



-The always terrific Down Home Radio Show folks - who describe themselves as “a hardcore, unreconstructed, paleo-acoustic folk music program" - put together a special two-part episode on Songs That Inspired Bob Dylan well worth checking out.



Dylan got an early birthday present on April 7 when he received a Pulitzer Prize for his “profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power." He is the first rock & roll musician to receive the prize.
