SAN FRANCISCO, November 15, 2005 - PEARL JAZZ Newswire

Look for Gemini Soul's first cyber-jazz CD titled, “A Cyber Jazz Holiday" to be available via Internet and major retailers November 15, 2005. Ajamu Akinyele and Jon O'Bergh produced the entire CD. “A Cyber Jazz Holiday" captures the true essence of smooth jazz combining elements of jazz-fusion to put you in the holiday spirit all year round!

GEMINI SOUL is a Cyber-Jazz group consisting mainly of recording artists Ajamu Akinyele, (Ah-jah-moo + Ah-kin-yay-lay), on bass and sequencers and Jon O'Bergh on piano and sequencers. Their unique style of music consists of Smooth Jazz - Funk Fusion. They've been compared to the smooth sounds of Sade, the laid back grooves of MeShell Ndegeocello, the funkiness of Prince, and the softness of George Winston. Performing together as Gemini Soul has given them the outlet to explore new boundaries and to create a musical vision called “Cyber Jazz." This is their first recording project as Gemini Soul and together they've created music that is incredibly genius.

Ajamu Akinyele recorded as MARCEL on the Bombay Recording Company Label from 1998 to 2004, and has had independent success with several releases in the San Francisco Bay Area, Europe, and Japan. As MARCEL, he released five CD's ranging from Funk to World, but as Ajamu Akinyele, he embarked on his first jazz CD titled “Supernova" April 2005. His career as MARCEL has always been a struggle finding his true musical style, but now he has found his true unique identity producing what he calls “Cyber Jazz - Funk Fusion," trying to redefine jazz for a new generation.

Jon O'Bergh has written and produced 5 CDs, including “Carta," which was #1 nationwide on the NAV chart; “Meditations from a Lost World," which reached #3; “Sacred Spaces"; and “Millennial Landscapes," which reached #2. He also co-produced songs for MARCEL, now known as Ajamu Akinyele, on his 2003 release “Uptown : 2025 A.D.," and for the R&B recording artist JARROD on his debut CD “Every Part of Me." Also, Jon has written songs for television, institutional projects, and concert music. “Timescape 2" for piano and violin, introduced his music to San Francisco audiences in a concert that was broadcasted by the National Public Radio station KQED.

“A Cyber Jazz Holiday," due for release November 15, 2005 on the Pearl Jazz Recording Label includes “Winter," a tribute to Shirley Horn; “The Holidays Are Here," inspired by Vince Guaraldi's version of “Christmas Time Is Here," and “The Holiday Song," based on the late Nat King Cole version of “The Christmas Song," which is hauntingly beautiful. Experience Cyber Jazz this holiday season!
