Issue 6 of Bill Shoemaker's Point of Departure: an online music journal goes live on July 3rd

Headlining Issue 6 is a new occasional feature, Something Else!, where musicians discuss their passions outside music. In this inaugural installment, Free Flight: Peter King and Aero Modeling, the esteemed British alto saxophonist talks about the other pursuit for which he is recognized internationally, rubber-propelled aero modeling. Issue 6 also includes an interview with Ornette Coleman that originally ran in JazzTimes in 1995. Drummer Gerry Hemingway answers 20 questions about life on the road in Travellin' Light. Moment's Notice reviews of CDs by artists ranging from Odean Pope to Pauline Oliveros. The Circle with a Hole in the Middle revisits a vintage LP, Bush Baby, by Black Arthur Blythe. And, The Uh Uh Uhs (the name is taken from a Steve Lacy tune) features commentaries on current music criticism.

If that's not enough, the Free Jazz contest offers readers the chance to win real prizes. Courtesy of Delmark Records, readers of Issue 6 will have the opportunity to win one of three copies of the DVD version of Ernest Dawkins' New Horizons Ensemble's Live at the Original Velvet Lounge: The Messenger.
