Evolution of Afro-Cuban Music

Wednesday, November 30th - 7:00pm

Explore and celebrate the music that emerged from the introduction of enslaved African peoples to the Caribbean islands. The concert ranges from re-creations of the earliest known performance pieces, including original instrumentation in and about Cuba, through contemporary Latin jazz as it has subsequently made its way to, and evolved, in the United States.

Featuring renowned musicians: David Amram (the first American jazz musician to go to Cuba), multiple wind instruments; Candido Camero, congas; Jimmy Delgado, timbales; Arturo O'Farrill (head of the Lincoln Center Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra), piano; Paul Peress, percussion/drums; Bobby Porcelli, sax; Ruben Rodriguez, bass.
