NEW YORK - The 2007 JVC Jazz Festival - New York, which took over the city June 17 - 30 with more than 300 artists in nearly 200 concerts and events at 28 venues in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, was “one of the most successful festivals in years," according to long-time producer George Wein, CEO of Festival Productions, a division of The Festival Network, LLC.

“This year's festival reached more than 30,000 people across the City, marking the highest percentage of attendance in years," said Wein. “With four sold-out concerts and three others averaging 2,000 paid attendees, the JVC Jazz Festival was a great success. Many of the concerts were emotional and memorable for the artists, the production team and guests. In addition, the media support and reviews were great and it gives me hope to continue doing this for many years to come."

The four sold-out shows featured performances by Keith Jarrett/Jack DeJohnette/Gary Peacock and Cesaria Evora with opener The Bird and the Bee plus 70th birthday celebrations for Ron Carter and Nancy Wilson. Other Festival favorites were concerts starring India.Arie and Lizz Wright, Patti LaBelle and Lou Donaldson Quartet and Bla Fleck & The Flecktones with opener The Del McCoury Band. Tributes to Eartha Kitt, Jimmy McPartland, Ruby Braff and Phoebe Jacobs also were well-received. In addition, audience attendance was high for free JVC Jazz Festival concerts, including the 4500 music lovers who turned out for Celebrate Brooklyn! to enjoy Groove Collective, Ravi Coltrane Quartet and Craig Harris Ensemble.

JVC Jazz Festivals continue in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, July 13 - 15; Chicago, July 20 -21; Newport, August 10 - 12; Concord, August 18; Los Angeles, August 19; Paris, October 13 - 20; and Warsaw, November 7 - 8.
