Sanjay Mishra
Guitarist-composer Sanjay Mishra has been described as abrilliant and innovative musician. Born In India, subsequentlybecoming a citizen of the United States, Sanjay plays with aneclecticism well suited to his multicultural background. Aftercompleting his studies at The Peabody Conservatory ofMusic, he began composing music that combined Easternand Western influences. In an interview with The WashingtonPost, he explains "I come from a tradition that has a lot ofimprovisation. Sometimes Western classical music can seema little rigid, I had to find some middle ground."
Sanjay first came to public acclaim for his album "BlueIncantation" with guitarist Jerry Garcia of The Grateful Dead.It is one of Mr. Garcia's rare collaborations in his late yearsand represents some of his last works.
Sanjay's latest CD Chateau Benares (October 2006) whichincluded guest appearances by DJ Logic and Keller Williamsamong others, was received with rave reviews on NationalPublic Radio and The Washington Post.
Sanjay has also composed music for films. His score for theFrench film "Port Djema" won for "Best Original Score" at theHamptons Film Festival in New York. The film was awardedthe Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. Variety gave "Aspecial nod for Sanjay Mishra's hauntingly beautiful score"
