Cara Auratus
She began singing in Texas and Louisiana while still too young to legally get into the bars. Old enough to connect with the music, vamp with a tune, collaborate with a quartet and deliver a song that audiences loved.
Always drawn to the incredible era of early jazz from the 20s and 30s, her primary influences include Alberta Hunter, Mildred Bailey, the Boswell Sisters, Anita O'Day, Chris Connor, Hoagy Carmichael and Jack Teagarden. Her interests include the use of the voice as an instrument, separate from a lyric line, and the collaboration of musicians.
Cara studied voice with Robert Hunt Robinson, Master Teacher of the traditional Italian Garcia-Marchesi vocal technique. In addition to singing, she plays the troubadour harp. She lives in San Francisco.
