Attiva professionalmente dalla metà degli anni ottanta, Claire Daly rappresenta l'ennesima dimostrazione che anche nel jazz non c'è settore dove l'"altra metà del cielo" non sappia ben figurare. Il suo strumento è il sax baritono, che Claire suona con vigore ed eleganza, sostenuta da un ricco groove.

Il suo fraseggio esprime linee melodiche sempre lineari, il timbro ha un bel tratto scuro che ricorda Leo Parker e Ronnie Cuber.

Diplomata al Berklee College, Claire Daly ha una lunga e diversificata esperienza alle spalle, avendo lavorato in formazioni orchestrali o accompagnato cantanti come James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Joe Williams. Per sette anni ha fatto parte dell'orchestra tutta femminile Diva, registrato cinque album col gruppo di Joel Forrester e due CD a suo nome per la Koch Jazz (Swing Low e Movin' On). Per quattro volte ha vinto il referendum di Down Beat nella categoria talenti emergenti e l'anno scorso il premio della Jazz Journalist Association quale sax baritono dell'anno.

Il disco presenta un modern mainstream eseguito con professionalità e passione: una musica fresca, attenta ai valori melodici, ricca d'ottimi interventi, che si snoda senza cadute di tensione.

Claire Daly è ovviamente protagonista in tutti i brani, sostenuta da ottimi partner come il pianista Eli Yamin, il vibrafonista Warren Smith e la fresca sezione ritmica. Tra i brani più interessanti ricordiamo gli swinganti "The Small But Evil Man" e "Ol' Devil Moon" più le ballad "Jacquet's Meditation" e "Heavenly".
