Gato Libre: DuDu
Fondandosi su un assortimento strumentale senz'altro inconsueto e su composizioni tutte a firma del trombettista e leader Natsuki Tamura, il quartetto protagonista di questo lavoro, inciso a Berlino nel giugno 2013, ci regala un prodotto certamente originale, che ha se vogliamo il solo limite di offrirci il meglio in apertura e chiusura, non rivelandosi nella parte centrale sufficientemente articolato nello sviluppare appieno tutto quanto messo felicemente sul piatto in avvio.

Elegante ma ricco di corpo, screziato e mai vacuamente ornamentale, corale ma costantemente illuminato dal contributo dei singoli, apre brillantemente le ostilità "DuDu." Più soffice, quieto e rilasciato, si srotola subito dopo "Gato," col trombone, e a seguire la tromba, protagonisti. Il trittico iniziale—come si diceva cuore pulsante del disco—si chiude quindi con "Nanook," che rinforza l'attitudine, già adombrata, a giustapporre proficuamente duetti vari, con intercapedini affidate però sia al singolo che al collettivo.

Una minore fertilità di contenuti segna come detto i brani che seguono, talora un po' anemici ("Rainy Day") o lievemente ingessati ("Scramble"), per quanto non privi di opportune increspature ("Mouse"). Tutto ciò fino al conclusivo "B&B," che decolla nel segno di una solennità di tratto già affiorata in "Cirencester," per farsi poi più disinvolto, decongestionato, in un felice convivere, strumento per strumento, tra informale e popolaresco.
