Jakob Dreyer: Songs, Hymns And Ballads Vol. 1 and Vol. 2

Read "Jakob Dreyer: Songs, Hymns And Ballads Vol. 1 and Vol. 2" reviewed by Dave Linn

German-born bassist Jakob Dreyer grew up interested in many diverse music styles. He says, “As a little child I had a thing for national anthems, church hymns, and traditional songs with simple melodies that I could remember and sing." He began playing classical piano at a young age but also enjoyed playing the pop music he was listening to. He does note, “My dad had a couple of jazz records, but I was not particularly interested in them."

For a newcomer to the scene, this would be a success. Yet Dawn rises up over the horizon with a bright glow that takes things well ...

Alessandro Fadini: A Dark and Stormy Day

Read "A Dark and Stormy Day" reviewed by Dave Wayne

Amongst the firehose-like blast of CDs and downloads aimed at me last summer was A Dark and Stormy Day, the debut album by Italian-born pianist and composer Alessandro Fadini. A new name to me, Fadini was educated to be a mathematician and is apparently self-taught on piano. Don't let that fool you, though. A protégé of Marc Copland, Fadini's chops as a player and composer are formidable. Fierce, even. As a soloist, he has an impulsive nature and his improvisations ...

Andreas Bohlen Band: Cruise

Read "Cruise" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

I quattro protagonisti di Cruise, benché suonino insieme da oltre dieci anni, sono all'album di debutto. Come altrettanto apprezzabile è la chitarra del fratello Sebastian, vellutata, mai sopra le ...
