Album Description

A few years back, my partner, pianist Marco Cremaschini, and I had a last-minute gig with bassist Alex Orciari and historic drummer 83-year-old Gianni Cazzola. Gianni is famous in Italy as the only Italian drummer to have performed with Billie Holiday and he entertained us with stories of his enchantment with Eartha Kitt, the tour he performed with her, and of sneaking cigarettes into an Italian prison for his friend Chet Baker. We’d never played together previously and jumped into the standards that we all agreed on, gathered in a beautiful, candlelit piazza in Salò on Lake Garda. He asked me to record an album with him and we recorded live in our home studio, all of us in the same room, just like it used to be done. – Lisa Marie Simmons
