Album Description

“First Call” is the Beat Baumli & Jürg Morgenthaler Trio’s debut CD, the joint work of three experienced jazz musicians performing subtly arranged standards and presenting original compositions by Beat Baumli in a chamber music setting. To create an authentic style within such a familiar genre as jazz, it takes the skill to master the musical vocabulary as well as each musician’s ability to express himself spontaneously and imaginatively within the ensemble. Consistent and deep immersion in the basic elements of jazz, its traditional components swing and blues – the very heart and soul of jazz –, playing in many differing formations, and the experience of countless performances in varying formations shaped and distinguished each of the three musicians’ careers. The audible charm and ease of their approach to the familiar language of jazz relies on just such a background, while their compositions and arrangements bespeak the sincerity and devotion with which each title asserts the timelessness and depth of jazz
