Album Description
“Deus Sax Machina - Hommage to Arnošt Coufal” is a tribute album by the saxophone ensemble Deus Sax Machina, honoring the late Czechoslovak composer Arnošt Coufal. The album features eight preludes for saxophone quintet, composed by Martin Uherek, inspired by Coufal’s original works. The compositions blend classical and jazz elements, showcasing lyrical melodies, intricate harmonies, and dynamic improvisations. The ensemble includes Nikola Bankov on alto saxophone, Martin Uherek on alto and tenor saxophones, Peter Dobai on tenor and soprano saxophones, and Erik Rothenstein on baritone saxophone. The album concludes with a bonus track called 30 rokov (30 Years) composed by Erik Rothenstein, adding a unique quartet arrangement to the collection.
