Founded in 1973, Umbria Jazz is Italy's most important jazz music festival and one of the first international jazz festivals of its kind.

This year's festival ran from July 7 to July 16 with events primarily held at the Arena of Santa Giuliana in Perugia, the capital of the Umbria region. Other participating venues included the Santa Giuliana Arena, the Morlacchi Theater, the Podiani Hall within the National Gallery of Umbria, the Piazza IV Novembre, the Carducci Gardens, the Bottega del Vino Restaurant and La Taverna.

The Arena stage was buzzing with activity and included performances by Jamie Cullum, Lettuce and magnificent evening dedicated to Luigi Tenco. Another evening presented two Cuban pianists Chucho Valdes and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, followed by the Christian McBride Quartet. The closing night was dedicated to Brazil and featured Hamilton de Holanda with special guests Stefano Bollani and Egberto Gismonti.

Later, Paolo Fresu and Uri Caine performed at the Morlacchi Theater. The Marcotulli Tommaso Paternesi Trio presented their "Around Gershwin" project and the Umbria Jazz Orchestra performed their Gil Evans "Quiet Nights "& Sketches of Spain" project.

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
