Bill Evans: Touch

Touch, produced by veteran saxophonist-composer Bill Evans for his debut on Zebra Records is one of compositional integrity that continues to explore the melodic themes of his previous release, Starfish & The Moon. His 11th as a leader, Touch exemplifies the personality and depth of Bill Evans’ musicianship on tunes ranging from smooth to straight ahead, charged with soaring soprano and robust tenor solos. The serenely lyrical “In Your Heart” imprints his smooth sax deep within the soul, leaving the listener with a feeling of tranquility. He reteams with guitarist Lee Ritenour on the moving ballad “Girl By The Sea” with an alluring sax melody underscored by the acoustic work of Ritenour. “Remembering” and the title track, “Touch” set the pulse of the set and have garnered the most airplay. The set ends with an exciting 10 minute percussive piece called “Country Mile” that will have fans out of their seats. Accompanied by an all-star cast of musicians including guitarist, Chuck Loeb and special guest Wallace Roney on trumpet, Bill Evans maintains a high-level of improvisation throughout the set and broadens his role as a composer of excellent songs with pure melodic lineage.
