01. Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus (Prestige - 1956).

Solenne, ricco di maestria tecnica, di inventiva, spavaldo.

02. Julius Watkins - French Horns for My Lady (Phillips - 1961).

Sentimentale ma ancora attuale, Julius al top con altri quattro corni francesi e George Duvivier, Ray Barreto, Gil Melle. Prodotto da Quincy Jones con gli arrangiamenti di Billy Byers (Sinatra).

03. The Clash - Combat Rock (Epic - 1982).

"SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO???".

04. Kenny Dorham - Quiet Kenny (Prestige - 1959).

Il mio trombettista preferito. Musica semplicemente meravigliosa. Che fraseggio! E niente sassofoni!

05. Maria Joao Pires - Bach: Partita No. 1, French Suites, English Suites (Deutsche Grammophon - 1995).

Il suo Bach ha un groove incredibile ma può anche colpirti al cuore.

06. Gil Evans - New Bottle Old Wine (Pacific Jazz - 1958).

Grandi arrangiamenti di Evans per Cannonball, Johnny Coles, Elvin. Ancora modernissimo. Una delle cose migliori del XX secolo.

07. The Neville Brothers - Brother's Keeper (A&M - 1990).

Grande versione di "Bird on a Wire" di Leonard Cohen.

08. Wayne Shorter - Alegria (Verve - 2003).

Grandi esecuzioni, composizioni e arrangiamenti e sorprendenti cambi di registro. Violoncelli, ance, ottoni, legni. Wayne che si rifà a Gil Evans, suppongo.

09. Eddie Palmieri - The Sun of Latin Jazz (Fania/Varese - 1973).

Barry Rodgers, Victor Paz, ospite Peter Gordon al corno francese. Ancora sorprendente.

10. Vanguard Orchestra - Up From the Skies: the Music of Jim McNeely (Planet Arts - 2005).

Grandi composizioni, Billy Drewes, e una delle ultime incisioni del grande bassista Dennis Irwin.
