Insieme a due standard jazz e pop, cinque composizioni originali costituiscono il repertorio proposto da uno dei più autorevoli e versatili esponenti del pianismo jazz contemporaneo. Il trio di Steve Kuhn si impone con questo CD degno di rilievo per il rigore e l'enciclopedismo stilistico dei musicisti, che abbinano magistero tecnica e cuore palpitante.

È tutto da assaporare il sobrio e raffinato solismo del leader, che viene magnificamente assecondato dalle sottili dinamiche dei due empatici compagni di viaggio. Il percepibile pathos di questo magnifico trio ben si sposa con l'equilibrio formale di un disco swingante, di grande sapienza dialogica.

La mini suite "Trance/Oceans in the Sky" rivive di un respiro dilatato, per ridare nuova linfa alle griglie armoniche di base. Questo brano che chiude il CD può essere ben elevato a simbolo esemplificativo di una creativo progetto, costruito empaticamente intorno alla poetica rarefatta di Kuhn. La musica delle sette tracce ha un carattere prevalentemente introspettivo, che si insinua come una fragorosa freccia di Cupido nel cuore dell'ascoltatore. To and from the Heart è pertanto un disco avvolgente, carico di suggestioni evocative e fascinose.
