Olli Ahvenlahti: Thinking, Whistling
Il pianista finlandese Olli Ahvenlahti, classe 1949, in questa che è la sua incisione più recente, datata luglio 2017, dirige un quartetto dalle geometrie nitide, correttissime, quanto assolutamente asservite a un linguaggio decisamente tradizionale. Naturalmente ognuno è libero di suonare (anche bene, come accade appunto qui) la musica che preferisce, ma è ovvio che risentire per l'ennesima volta la classica sequenza tema/assoli/tema, secondo un idioma ormai trito e ritrito, non gratifica granché il vostro recensore.

Non manca un buon gusto di fondo, ma anche tematicamente (tutti a firma del pianista e leader i nove temi in programma) viene praticato un post-bop assai prudente, onestissimo, dignitosissimo, anche gradevole, ma totalmente privo di ogni tipo di sorpresa. I brani migliori? Potremmo estrarne dal mazzo un paio ("Late Night" e "Saturday"), pur all'interno di un parterre di valore piuttosto omogeneo, svolto secondo i canoni testé descritti.
