Per Kenny Werner la decisione di affrontare questo progetto per solo pianoforte è riconducibile ad una duplice istanza: una ricerca del suono limpido e rarefatto, illuminata da un volatile pensiero interpretativo inteso a considerare gli standard come volano di un più complesso e dilatato percorso creativo. In linea con le rilevanti esperienze discografiche del sessantasettenne pianista statunitense, The Space contiene diversi elementi stilistici di rilievo. In primo piano la libera improvvisazione all'interno di una pregevole gestione di pieni e vuoti, dove la suggestione poetica ben si abbina ad una affascinante dimensione melodica.

Si impone una rigorosa architettura musicale, nel modo di swingare ed affrontare con souplesse ogni singolo brano. I due standard affrontati sono una lezione in cattedra per un musicista fantastico per la capacità di saper regalare momenti gran de lirismo senza adagiarsi sul sicuro.

Kenny Werner si distingue per l'ennesima volta dimostrando classe, perizia e buon gusto da vendere. Questo album si rivela pregevole, grazie alla tensione emotiva ben relazionata alla ragguardevole dimensione formale.
