Seguendo l'esempio di innumerevoli loro colleghi, i componenti di The Eastern Seaboard, nati in tre diversi Stati dell'Unione, hanno pensato bene di trasferirsi a New York; qui si sono incontrati e all'inizio del nuovo millennio hanno costituito il gruppo paritario. Alle loro spalle vantano tre CD autoprodotti per la Tigerasylum e un primo CD per la Black Saint, Nonfiction, pubblicato nel 2004.

Come altri tenoristi, incluso Tony Malaby, Brent Bagwell non nasconde la sua derivazione da Ayler. Ciò risulta evidente soprattutto nell'apertura di "Potts County," in "Manifest Destiny" e Solar Set," mentre in altri brani la pronuncia del suo tenore si modella su esempi più recenti dell'improvvisazione free, da Eskelin a Vandermark, senza tuttavia raggiungerne la perentoria incisività espressiva. Soprattutto con l'archetto, ma anche al pizzicato, il contrabbassista Jordon Schranz ricorda molto Alan Silva, esponendo una tecnica scabra e una comunicativa un po' tenebrosa e ossessiva ma diretta. Il drumming di Seth Nanaa, appartato, insinuante nell'uso frusciante delle spazzole, con qualche sussulto eccentrico, è probabilmente poco appariscente, pur possedendo una sua coerente efficacia.

In questa registrazione del marzo 2007 il trio dimostra affiatamento e idee chiare, anche se non particolarmente originali, allineate onestamente sulle direttive di un free attuale, frastagliato ma tutto sommato abbastanza prudente. I tredici brani, brevi e tutti a firma collettiva, si basano su temi semplici, spunti appena accennati, e situazioni piuttosto ripetitive, a volte non sufficientemente caratterizzate sotto il profilo melodico e ritmico.
