Masashi Harada - Mat Maneri: The Soul with Longing for Dim Hills and Faint Horizons
C’è un’atmosfera sbiadita, opaca, in questo disco, simile a delle vecche foto in bianco e nero dai contorni ormai ingialliti o a vecchie immagini sedimentate nella memoria. La si percepisce non appena ci si introduce nel perché di questa musica, non appena pianoforte e viola cominciano a inseguirsi, in una composta altalena di suoni, ora intensi, gridati, ora sussurati.

Harada e Maneri si conoscono da tempo, hanno suonato spesso in trio con violoncello o percussioni, ma è nella dimensione del duo che riescono ad esprimere meglio la loro idea di musica. E’ un periodare semplice il loro, ma ricco di sviluppi sotterranei. Quasi un gioco ad incastro, un vivace girotondo sul filo dei ricordi indelebili e di attimi che faticano a scomparire proprio perché sembrano intensamente vissuti. La musica, ora breve, ora girovaga, non ò mai asfittica, ma punta all’essenziale.

Un disco che ha il suo fascino. Sullo sfondo, pittoreschi, a volte melanconici ricordi acciuffati alla rinfusa dalla fanciullezza degli autori.
