Vince Seneri: The Prince´s Groove
Un tempo il suono dell'Hammond B3 arrivava perfino nelle classifiche di vendita e Jimmy Smith era uno dei capisaldi della Blue Note. Oggi siamo lontani da quei livelli di vendita e di popolaritá ed uno come Vince "The Prince" preferisce incidere da solo autoproducendosi.

Tutti gli arrangiamenti sono suoi insieme ad una parte delle composizioni, tutte di buon livello e dal ritmo molto coinvolgente. Seneri ha saputo scegliere i musicisti giusti untilizzandoli nei brani piú adatti (ad esempio Randy Brecker nel brano di apertura o Houston Person che interpreta la ballad "The Nearness of You") ospiti del classico trio con chitarra e batteria. Che dire? Il livello è alto, tanto, cosa che sembra logica per uno che è fra i migliori interpreti del suo strumento in uno stile che si avvicina a quello di Jimmy Smith.

Il modo piú facile per ascoltare questo disco è quello di apprezzarne i solisti e l'entusiasmo con cui si immergono in quella che è l'eredità delle sonorità Hammond anni `60, senza per questo dovere temere il confronto con gli originali. Il loro gusto interpretativo così esuberante, sfavillante in volumi e colori, è così accattivante che a stento si riesce a spegnere il lettore CD. Qualità non da poco: si passa da una perla all'altra, dagli assoli folgoranti degli ospiti, fra cui il flautista Dave Valentin, al magico suono del leader, dalla chitarra di Paul Bollenback, sovrano su tutte le possibili velocità a cui si puó suonare lo strumento, alla ritmica che rende praticamente palpabile il concetto di swing.
