Swingadelic: The Other Duke - Tribute to Duke Pearson
Divertente. È questo il primo aggettivo che salta in mente dopo aver ascoltato le dieci tracce di The Other Duke - Tribute to Duke Pearson, il nuovo lavoro firmato Swingadelic. Questo perché la musica del pianista e compositore Duke Pearson, qui omaggiata in maniera molto fedele ai tratti originali, porta dentro di sé una vitalità contagiosa e una netta sensazione di movimento, di continuo divenire.

Album che si apre con la sorniona "Mississippi Dip," dove fiati e chitarra intrecciano una splendida melodia, per passare poi alla danzante "Chili Peppers," alla quale si contrappone in buona alternanza la seriosa "Cristo Redentor" con il suo incedere cadenzato e solenne. È la frizzante "Big Bertha" a risultare uno dei passaggi di maggior appeal dell'intera scaletta, per via della grande interazione tra gli elementi dell'ensemble che si muovono sulla partitura come fossero pedine direzionate da un abile scacchista. Da rimarcare anche la riuscita di "Ready Rudy" - quarto brano, insieme a "Big Bertha," "Sweet Honey Bee" e "Sudel" tratto da Sweet Honey Bee di Pearson - per l'intensità dei soli e per il forte senso dello swing che si avverte per l'intera esecuzione.

Si tratta di brani che si portano dietro un fascino d'altri tempi, ma che gli Swingadelic riescono a interpretare con precisione e passione, rendendo il tutto molto fresco e - per via dell'approccio esuberante - anche attuale.
