L'omaggio al songbook di Cole Porter realizzato dalla band capitanata da Walter Ricci e Daniele Scannapieco non lascia scampo: grande eleganza formale, profondità espressiva ai massimi livelli, movimenti rispettosi e bilanciati pronti a lasciare un segno tangibile proprio perché pieni di significato e fascino.

Nove tracce in tutto. Canzoni, scelte con dedizione nel corposo repertorio del compositore americano, vestite con abiti scuri, da gran serata, che in certi momenti vivono sul timbro caldo e decisamente lirico del sax di Scannapieco e che in altri - quasi tutti, a dire la verità - trovano nella voce di Ricci uno splendore di rara bellezza, intensità e capacità tecnica. Il vocalist produce vibrazioni intense, come per esempio nell'iniziale "I Concentrate on You," dove possiamo apprezzare anche lo sfondo morbido e ammaliante disegnato dal piano di Michele Di Martino, o nella successiva "All of You," nella quale si produce in un bel solo Scannapieco, che a sua volta sa dosare i propri interventi con intelligenza e senza mai dare troppo sfoggio di se stesso, anche quando - vedi "It's All Right With Me" - le luci dei riflettori indugiano sulla sua figura.

In The Cole Porter Songbook troviamo un repertorio di bellezza indistruttibile, proposto da un gruppo di musicisti pronti nel misurarsi con tale grandezza e soprattutto capaci nel darne una versione sincera, senza inutili orpelli e aggiunte fuori luogo.
