Canadese di nascita ma statunitense d'adozione, Pete Mills pubblica il suo quarto disco confermando alcuni abituali partner, come il propulsivo batterista Matt Wilson o il chitarrista Pete McCann (entrambi in Art and Architecture del 2004).
Siamo in pieno straight ahead jazz ma la fantasia e l'inventivo groove del leader trovano piena risposta nei partner portando a un risultato felice, variopinto e ricco di tensione. I riferimenti stilistici sono riconoscibili ma il ruolo di artisti come Mills, che attualizzano e perfezionano la tradizione sono un fattore essenziale per tenere in vita e far crescere questa musica.

Nello specifico il tenorista si colloca sulla linea Hank Mobley / Joe Henderson, con un eloquio orientato al blues ma sensibile e sofisticato nella costruzione melodica. Il repertorio è costituito in gran parte da brani di sua composizione e include alcuni classici riproposti con equilibrio e buon gusto: "Serenade to a Cuckoo" di Kirk, "The Star-Crossed Lovers" di Ellington-Strayhorn e "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend." Non mancano due brevi episodi liberamente improvvisati, basati sul confronto tra sax tenore e batteria.

In definitiva una musica di qualità, dove la perizia tecnica non si trasforma in una gara sportiva ma c'è spazio per esprimere feeling e sfumature. Ne è un chiaro esempio il tema ellingtoniano affrontato con le sottili richiami alla bossa nova.
