Outhouse with Hilmar Jensson: Straw, Sticks & Bricks
Gli Outhouse sono una delle giovani band inglesi emergenti nel panorama del nuovo jazz e della nuova musica creativa e sperimentale. Fanno parte del Loop Collective e sono sempre pronti a reinventarsi per cambiare. Perchè hanno capito che nel percorso verso il cambiamento risiede la chiave e la speranza per il futuro. Per il precedente album Ruhabi (uscito nel 2010) avevano chiamato cinque batteristi africani che avevano conosciuto durante un viaggio in Gambia.

In questo Straw, Sticks & Bricks hanno invece coinvolto il chitarrista islandese Hilmar Jensson, ben noto fra gli appassionati del nuovo jazz oltre che per i suoi dischi da leader soprattutto per la lunga militanza a fianco del batterista Jim Black nel gruppo Alas No Axis, un gruppo che è stato certamente un modello di ispirazione per gli Outhouse, sin dall'inizio della loro avventura. In qualche modo un altro cerchio che si chiude verso il passato per aprirsi verso il domani.

Aggiungere una chitarra elettrica come quella di Jensson ad un quartetto formato da due sax tenori, un basso e una batteria è certamente una mossa destabilizzante, perchè aggiunge possibilità di strutturazione e di variazione timbrica assolutamente nuove. I ragazzi inglesi se le esplorano tutte fin nei minimi pertugi. Forti anche della eccellente padronanza tecnica, della freschezza dell'ispirazione, della forza innovativa derivante dall'aggiunta di Jensson.

Insomma, largo ai giovani.
