Fabrizio Cecca: Southern Avenue Project

Non è un mistero che in un passato non troppo remoto diversi musicisti italiani (Paolo Fresu e Flavio Boltro per ricordare i più noti) abbiano scelto di evadere le patrie terre per trovare nuovi spazi, nuovi stimoli alla propria creatività, e non da ultimo, nuove possibilità per esercitare la propria arte. E non è un mistero che meta preferita di queste evasioni è stata, e continua ad essere, Parigi.

Proprio a Parigi si sono incontrati il contrabbassista romano Fabrizio Cecca, il flautista cremonese Andrea Romani, e il pianista marchigiano Giovanni Ceccarelli, per dar vita, insieme a tre colleghi d'oltralpe, a questo Southern Avenue Project. Disco non sconvolgente ma interessante, per un gusto un po' retrò che avvolge le composizioni, per gli arrangiamenti leggeri, garbati messi in campo dal leader, per il sound complessivo dell'ensemble, vellutato e gioioso.

La presenza del flauto ingentilisce in modo naturale le poche asperità delle composizioni (siamo dalle parti di alcuni produzioni inizi anni settanta della CTI, etichetta peraltro assai vicina ai flautisti), mentre la front-line costituita da tre fiati conferisce un afflato orchestrale alle esecuzioni, il tutto condito da assoli misurati ed efficaci, armoniose intersezioni tra le varie sezioni dei brani, ed un intelligente gioco di rimandi e di velate citazioni.
