Inciso a fine settembre 2013, questo lavoro del trentenne pianista inglese John Escreet, autore della suite in nove parti che lo compone, vanta anzitutto il non indifferente dono della partecipazione di Evan Parker, musicista generoso che non ha mai lesinato la propria adesione a prove discografiche e concertistiche di musicisti anche—come si suol dire—emergenti o di fresca emersione.

Qui la presenza di Parker, poi, si rivela particolarmente rispettosa del contesto complessivo, pur non mancando ovviamente i riflessi del suo sapere improvvisativo dispensati lungo i vari episodi (o comunque nella maggior parte di essi). Ci sono così turbolenze più marcate, quasi carnali, prosciugamenti più cerebrali, con una tensione più intestina, e risacche più astratte, contemplative, cogitabonde.

Lo stile pianistico di Escreet spazia dai palpabili taylorismi dell'episodio iniziale, e poi di altri momenti sparsi lungo l'album, a oasi decisamente più educate, pensose, talora persino rasserenanti. Le fluttuazioni atmosferiche sono del resto all'ordine del giorno, a disegnare, alla fine, un percorso sonoro e creativo quanto mai screziato, congruo, multidirezionale.

Qualche inevitabile momento di flessione, qualche segmento non indispensabile, non compromettono l'esito finale di un lavoro di estremo rigore e ottima messa a fuoco complessiva.
