Eldad Tarmu Chamber Jazz Ensemble: Songs for the Queen of Bohemia

L’idea non è proprio rivoluzionaria: affiancare ad un jazz trio un quartetto di musica da camera. Ma qualche elemento insolito è presente. Il trio non è il classico basso batteria e sassofono, o pianoforte, o chitarra ma vede come solista il vibrafono, strumento di grande significato nell’evoluzione del linguaggio jazzistico, ma non così frequentato nella versione del trio.

Il solista in questione è poi un docente alla Tibiscus University di Timisoara in Romania, terra non proprio feconda di storia jazzistica, e vanta frequentazioni con alcuni esponenti di spicco della scena californiana tout court. Il quartetto d’archi è invece una diretta emanazione della Timisoara Philharmonic Orchestra, una vera e propria istituzione rumena.

Il risultato? Un affresco musicale che accompagna un breve racconto dello stesso Tarmu che sostituisce le tradizionali note di copertina. E come in ogni vicenda narrativa che si rispetti, gli stati d’animo si alternano con grande facilità e disinvoltura. Prevalgono sentimenti di grande dolcezza e seduzione, ma non mancano momenti di stupore, preoccupazione, gioia improvvisa, malinconia.

Eldad Tarmu è solista misurato e sensibile, Timisoara String Quartet si rivela interlocutore apprezzabile in un dialogo nel quale forza con intelligenza la disciplina classica verso canoni improvvisativi che tolgono il quartetto da una funzione meramente descrittiva.

E Songs for the Queen of Bohemia, con il suo mix di jazz, profumi balcanici e musica da camera, sarà gradito all’ascoltatore in cerca di musica dai decisi connotati di trasversalità.
