Where's Africa? Si chiede più di qualcuno. Domanda più che lecita, dal momento che si fa sempre più netta la percezione che le sonorità africane siano un elemento ormai inscindibile delle più coinvolgenti produzioni soul/funk/black di ogni latitudine, un elemento che per tutta una serie di felicissime ibridazioni incrociate è portatore [sanissimo!] del virus di ritmi e sonorità che solo gli scaffali più reazionari continuano a etichettare come world music.

Se Mulatu Astatqe si è divertito con gli Heliocentrics, Steve Reid ha portato Kieran Hebden a Dakar e il finlandese Jimi Tenor ha trovato in Tony Allen un fenomenale alleato, non sarà difficile capire il perché della musica degli Skeletons, band "fantasma" assemblata da Ben Lamdin, mente dei Nostalgia 77 e a capo dell'etichetta Impossible Ark.

Lavorando su tracce ritmiche preesistenti, facendo registrare a musicisti di passaggio dalle sue parti e a fidati collaboratori schegge di Africa, Lamdin ha così costruito "in provetta" il suo figlio più multietnico, unendo percussioni funk e temi etiopici, soulness postmoderne e calori afrobeat, lasciando spazio strumentale a fiati e chitarrine maliziose e chiudendo il disco con la splendida voce di Alice Russell in "Adam and Eve".

Finzione terzomondista e groove diventano così una cosa sola, calibrata alla perfezione e pronta a far ballare gli spiriti jazz più indomiti.
