Louis Moholo-Moholo - Marilyn Crispell: Sibanye (We Are One)

A parte scontati riferimenti alle vicende elettorali d'oltreoceano, il titolo di questa incisione rimanda ad una unità d'intenti che si respira a piene mani lungo le sette tracce dell'album. Sibanye (We Are One) celebra l'incontro tra due spiriti liberi: quello esuberante, africano, militante, di Louis Moholo-Moholo e quello intellettualistico, rigoroso, matematico (ah, quella frequentazione con Braxton) di Marilyn Crispell.

E come a volte capita quando in gioco ci sono due personalità profonde e accomunate da una visione spirituale della musica avviene la magia dell'osmosi, dell'intreccio vitale e creativo tra sensibilità diverse. L'energia primitiva delle percussioni di Moholo-Moholo contagia l'imperturbabile pianismo della Crispell che a sua volta sembra trasferire la lucida geometria del suo pensiero al bagaglio ritmico del suo interlocutore.

In Sibanye (We Are One) i ruoli si confondono e si ribaltano, gli strumenti abbattono la loro ristrettezza fisica per espandersi in suono cosmico, così che melodia e ritmo assumono contorni sempre mutevoli in un gioco a nascondino che ad ogni ascolto rivela nuove miniere sonore. Le percussioni di Moholo-Moholo sono dolci e melodiche come non mai, pur non perdendo nulla della propria africanità, il pianismo di Crispell è limpido come una fonte di montagna, ma assume straordinari connotati percussivi raramente cosi vividi e pregnanti.
