Sarah Buechi: Shadow Garden
Sarah Buechi, trentaquattrenne cantante e compositrice di Lucerna, che definire cantautrice sarebbe un po' ardito, per quanto i brani siano tutti suoi, testo e musica, batte bandiera jazzistica nell'organico e nell'impianto della sua proposta, attraversando tuttavia territori che con la classica immagine della jazz singer non sempre hanno granché a che fare.

Tale dicotomia, se così la possiamo chiamare, si manifesta fin dalla prima coppia di brani, il primo più schiettamente jazzistico (con tanto di sviluppo strumentale in trio, persino un po' inamidato), il secondo decisamente più sulla sponda della canzone comunemente intesa.

Si procede lungo questo doppio binario (senza che i terreni rimangano così separati, per carità) nei pezzi che seguono, dando qua e là l'impressione di una certa ovvietà, ma con i brani che non di rado fanno registrare un colpo d'ala sul finire (capita in "Comfort of Illusions" e "Alive," per esempio), nel segno complessivo di un'ammirevole eleganza di tratto ("Shadow Play" e "Irish Garden," forse non a caso i due episodi che racchiudono il titolo dell'album, appaiono in tal senso gli esempi più significativi), fino a una pregevole ghost track finale che ha tutti i crismi del brano fatto e finito (dura del resto quasi sette minuti).
