Youn Sun Nah: Same Girl

Quando partono le prime note di "My Favorite Things," un mondo di possibilità musicali sembra dischiudersi. La coreana Youn Sun Nah in un arrangiamento spoglio, suona la kalimba. E sguazza con la sua voce d'avorio come una falena triste tra le note dello standard di Rodgers e Hammerstein II. Pura magia.

Un ostinato alla chitarra di Ulf Wakenius introduce un classico firmato Jackson C. Frank ("My Name Is Carnival"). La voce della cantante assume timbriche innervate di folk. "Breakfast in Baghdad" è una distesa che si perde a vista d'occhio. La chitarra di Wakenius diventa la voce di Youn Sun e le corde vocali della coreana si confondono in quelle dell'abilissimo musicista.

"Uncertain Weather" e "Pancake" sono le uniche composizioni della cantante. La prima ha un passo dolente, incerto, pieno di ombre e molto autunnale. Prima l'arpeggio poi l'assolo di Wakenius lo riscattano. La seconda ha una verve più brillante e risplende divertita.

Il traditional coreano, "Kangwondo Arirang," è luce esotica e affascinante. La saudade di "Song of No Regrets" (di Sergio Mendes) assume contorni quasi avanguardistici. La cover che dà il titolo a tutto il lavoro ("Same Girl") farà sorridere Randy Newman.

Poi Youn Sun si diletta perfino con "Enter Sandman" dei Metallica e lì fa esplodere i suoi acuti sempre ben controllati e mai a disagio.

Al settimo disco la cantante coreana riesce, con equilibrio e sobrietà, a esprimere una cifra stilistica personale.
